All quotes submitted by musicians on Encore are VAT inclusive.
Musicians pay a Service Fee out of their total quote which goes towards guaranteeing them their deposit and full payment and 24/7 support from the Encore team. We believe that this is the simplest and fairest solution for both musicians and clients: musicians can be in control of their take-home pay, and clients are never faced with having to pay a hidden charge.
Though we are a service, it may be simpler to imagine that the Encore Service Fee is a product, just like sheet music or pencils, which you purchase in the line of your employment. The good news here is that, like these work-related tools, you can claim it back from the government in the usual way.
Here's an example of how a quote might break down. Note: the Service Fee is taken out of the total quote inclusive of VAT. In this example you could claim back the VAT from the Service Fee (£30).
Total quote: £1200
- Performance fee: £1020
- £850 + £170 (20% VAT)
- Encore Service fee (15% of Performance fee): £180
- £150 + £30 (20% VAT)
If you would like to claim back VAT from a particular Encore booking, please email us as firstname.lastname@example.org explaining which booking you'd like to claim VAT back on and we'll send over an invoice detailing the VAT breakdown which can be used when submitting tax returns.
