Adding video to your Encore profile is a key part of convincing our Customers that you're the right act for their event. (Find out how to do this here).
However, you may be experiencing issues adding a YouTube video to your Encore profile if it's less than 60 seconds long. This is probably because your short clips are now YouTube Shorts.
What is a YouTube Short? π€³
Since 2021, YouTube has been pushing its own competitor to short-form video services like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
This means any video under 60 seconds is now formatted as a Short - including short clips from your gigs!
Why can't I add a YouTube Short link to Encore? π«
This is an issue with Youtube's settings. They don't currently allow Youtube Shorts to be embedded on other sites, unfortunately. This includes adding a Short as video content to your profile.
Directly copying and pasting links from a YouTube Short will give you this error message when adding to your Encore profile:
The issue is caused by the "shorts" text in the URL.
So how do I get the video on Encore? β
Fear not - there is a workaround! We just need to reformat the link from YouTube so it doesn't include 'Shorts' in the URL.
All you need to do to get an embeddable link is to:
1. Copy and paste the Shorts URL. (for example, https://www.youtube.com/shorts/J38Yq85ZoyY)
2. Remove "www." and "shorts/"
3. Add a full stop between "youtu" and "be.com" - your link should now look like https://youtu.be/J38Yq85ZoyY
3. Go to your Encore profile and select the 'Media' tab from the left-side menu.
4. Click '+ Add video', paste the video URL, and confirm by clicking 'Add'.
Reminder: This link should display with the format: https://youtu.be/J38Yq85ZoyY - which works. Make sure your link looks like this.
Annoyingly, the format https://www.youtube.com/shorts/J38Yq85ZoyY won't work because of the 'shorts' and the 'www.' in the URL - even though it's the same video!
Like all videos, your YouTube Short will go through our usual vetting process. Most videos are approved quickly, but videos containing contact details, website links, social media handles, or any other information that could encourage customers to book elsewhere aren't allowed.
We appreciate that YouTube's change to Shorts has made this process slightly unclear, but you should be fine to add this to your profile now!
